Design Talk: Unveiling Project Heritage Park

Welcome to this month's blog, a captivating conversation unveiling the story behind Project Heritage Park. A stunning venture completed in the fall of 2023, this special project perfectly encapsulates the essence of personalized design.

Join us as we sit down with our brilliant design duo, Christiane and Alex, to discuss the intricate journey of bringing this unique project to life. We delve into the creative process, key considerations and share our favourite moments of bringing this project from concept to completion.

Interviewer: Can you share with us how the design process for Project Heritage Park started? What steps did you take to bring these unique designs to life?

Christiane (C): The journey began by truly understanding the client's needs and vision. We explored what they loved about their existing space, what they wanted to change and how they intended to use the space. We wanted to create an interior that reflected their personalities and provide a functional and captivating space for family and friends to gather and celebrate life's milestones.

Interviewer: What were the key factors you considered when creating the concepts for this project? How did you present these concepts to the client?

C: Every element for this project was meticulously curated and unique. The clients appreciated having a story behind each design element. They collaborated with us, sourcing antique items to blend with their modern take on vintage farmhouse style.

Alex (A): The clients wanted one-of-a-kind pieces with a story. They did an amazing job providing us with décor items passed down through generations, visible in the living room gallery wall and the main bathroom's custom barn door with antique glass.

Interviewer: How did you gather inspiration and ideas for this design? How did you incorporate the client's preferences?

C: We drew inspiration from the existing space and the client's furniture and décor. Their authentic style guided our choices, and we incorporated key elements to complement the design, such as a custom hand-stamped wall and antique mantel in the bedroom, a wine barrel near the bar, and vintage suitcases as side tables.

A: Colors and fabrics were thoughtfully selected to complement existing items, incorporating soft neutrals as a base and adding pops of color, texture, and pattern to showcase the clients' personalities.

Interviewer: What inspired you most when creating this design?

C: Observing how people interact with their homes inspires me. Our focus is always on translating their lifestyles into the design. It's not about my personal taste but about capturing what they want for their spaces.

A: I found immense inspiration in the clients' dedication to showcasing their roots and family history. This dedication shone through in the artwork, artifacts, and historical items that became integral parts of the design.

Interviewer: How did you align functionality, beauty, and durability when designing this space? What materials were used, and why did you choose them?

C: Beauty, durability, and functionality should create a positive user experience. We used rustic wood, iron, leather, and strong materials. We balanced this and created a cozy feel through soft fabrics, interesting patterns, and layering textures with wallpaper and colors.

A: Our material choices, like wood, iron elements, soft fabrics, and vintage objects, were nods to classic farmhouse style, creating a beautifully balanced design. The result is a space that looks inviting, interesting, and stands the test of time in terms of functionality and durability.

Interviewer: Was there a challenge at one of the design process stages of this project that you had to overcome, and how did you do it?

C: For the bedroom accent wall, sourcing floral black and white wallpaper proved challenging. We sourced many options but didn't find the perfect fit. The solution came from a local artist who hand-painted and stamped the wall with a floral theme. We selected the paint colours in an effort soften the look instead of the original black-and-white idea. Trusting the process and adjusting the original idea resulted in a fabulous outcome.

Interviewer: What was your favorite element of the final design?

C: The bedroom accent wall — it was an amazing process!

A: My favourite element has to be the custom barn door in the main bathroom. This was designed to hide the laundry utilities when not in use, and the antique glass really brings that “wow” factor to an otherwise simple design.
